ARRMC Trail Maintenance

What is trail maintenance?  Who does the trail maintenance?  Why is trail maintenance necessary?

Do you ever ask yourself how do these trails exist?  The answer is simple, the trails exist because of OHV riders just like yourself.  They volunteer one saturday a month to work on the trail system.  This work can vary from cleaning up trash to installing and maintaning new trails.  The event schedule contains the dates of these work parties, time, and meeting place.

These dates are not the only opportunities to work on the trail system.  Their are many members that perform fork on the trails at other times than what is listed on the events page.  Due to the amount of riders and type of weather that Oregon has there are a multitude of opportunities to work on the trail system.  This work is as easy as removing rocks and tree limbs from trails to installing culverts and bridges on the trails.  Some guide lines for performing trail maintenance are as follows:

• Keep trails to a minium width.  Target width is 50 inches.
• Perform the work with minimal impact as possible
• Verify that no fire restrictions are in affect that limits the use of chainsaws and OHV's

ARRMC owns numerous types of tools that can be used by anyone wanting to get involved with trail maintenance.  These tools are typically located in Salem and Dallas.  Through the OHV sticker program ARRMC has many hand tools, chainsaws, weed eaters, a Polaris 6x6 with trailer, and a 12 foot enclosed trailer to transport the tools.  If you are interested in using these tools please contact ARRMC.

If you do trail maintenance, ARRMC needs the number of volunteers, hours worked(including travel time), trails names, and type of work completed.  Please email this information to info@arrmc.com.  The number of volunteer hours are used each year to obtain supplies and grants for the next year.
